Making a documentary film just about always takes you into unknown territory - Hip Hop-eration was no exception.
When executive producer, Alex Lee and producer Paula Jones first presented the films synopsis to me I was immediately interested. This was a story that not only explored the truly universal themes of individuals needing to find a purpose and relevance to their lives – but life and death itself.
Hip-operation is a simple character-driven documentary that tells the humorous, heartfelt and life-affirming story of an elderly Waiheke hip-hop dance troupe and their life changing journey to the world hip hop championships in Las Vegas.
Combining elements of great local hip hop music, an insight into a local Island community, and an unforgettable cast of characters on a mold-breaking journey of their lives to the Mecca of entertainment. Hip-operation has been crafted into a wonderfully entertaining and popular film.
Like the theme music says… ‘Life is for Living’.
